Hearing begins into proposed M50 widening

An Bord Pleanála has begun a hearing into the proposed widening of the M50 motorway which is due to begin next year.

It has received more than 250 objections and submissions in relation to the plans.

Green Party TDs Eamon Ryan and Paul Gogarty, and An Post, are among those objecting.

The Government Chief Whip, Tom Kitt, and CIÉ have also made submissions but say they support the motorway widening scheme.

More than 100 residents who live in the area surrounding the M50 have lodged objections, but most did not turn up at today's hearing.

The hearing is expected to last around seven days.
