The former Chilean dictator, Augusto Pinochet, has been put under house arrest.
A judge ordered the 89-year-old to stand trial for charges relating to the murder and kidnap of opponents during his 17-year regime.
The order was issued by Judge Juan Guzman, who has been investigating Gen Pinochet for abuses committed between 1973 and 1990.
Pinochet ruled Chile with an iron fist when some 3,000 political opponents were killed by the regime, according to an official count.
