The Mahon Tribunal has heard that beef baron Larry Goodman lost £250,000 after getting involved in a land deal with Liam Lawlor.
Mr Goodman provided £600,000 to Mr Lawlor over the purchase of 55 acres of land at Coolamber in Dublin, but only got £350,000 back.
Mr Goodman also did not get any beneficial ownership of the lands, which were later sold to a builder for £3 million in 1992.
Senior Counsel Des O'Neill said the inquiry believes that Mr Lawlor, along with businessman Jim Kennedy and solicitor John Caldwell, got the profits.
