The Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform has admitted that his driver received an on-the-spot fine for exceeding the speed limit in Co Galway last week.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio, Frank Fahey said his car had been stopped while travelling at 79mph in a 60mph zone between Craughwell and Loughrea late at night.
Mr Fahey said his civilian driver was normally a very safe and careful driver.
The minister said he had not yet discussed the matter with the Minister for Justice, but added that he regretted the incident and said it was wrong.
