An exit poll issued after the end of today's voting in Ukraine's presidential election showed that the West-leaning liberal opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko had won the run-off vote.
The exit poll organisers said Mr Yushchenko, an economist, took 54 % against 42% for the Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.
Thousands of international observers monitored the second round of the presidential election in the former Soviet State.
Extra police officers and soldiers are on duty in the capital, Kiev, for the vote.
In the first round of presidential elections, the pro-Western opposition leader, Viktor Yushchenko, narrowly beat the prime minister, Viktor Yanukovich, who is backed by Moscow.
Mr Yushchenko has called for mass protests if the second-round result is falsified.
