A senior US commander has said the US-led ground offensive in Fallujah has broken the back of the insurgency in Iraq, disrupting rebel operations across the country.
Lieutenant General John Sattler said the all-out assault on the city had flushed the rebels out and scattered them.
Fallujah had been a safe haven for Iraqi insurgents who rose up after last year's ousting of Saddam Hussein.
