Lithuania ratifies new EU constitution

Lithuania has become the first EU country to approve the new constitution.

It was approved in a parliamentary vote by a majority of 84 votes to four, with three abstentions.

Lithuania was one of ten countries which joined the EU on 1 May this year. The constitution still needs the approval of the other 24 EU members.

Many countries, including Ireland, are due to hold referendums.
