CWU to ballot An Post members

The Communications Workers' Union is to ballot members in An Post for industrial action in a row over pay and productivity.

Last Friday, talks between management and unions at the Labour Relations Commission ended with management offering around 5.5% over four years as part of a package involving significant work practice changes.

Today, the CWU's sectoral executive for postal workers decided to ballot members on acceptance of rejection of the offer.

However, they will also be balloting members on potential industrial action if the union deems it necessary to protect existing agreements, particularly on working time.

A result is expected in two weeks.

Last week, the CWU warned that members at An Post might disrupt the Christmas postal service with an overtime ban if the current row was not resolved soon.
