The North Western Health Board has confirmed that a two-year-old boy was admitted yesterday to Letterkenny General Hospital with meningitis.
The boy is seriously ill and is being transferred to the children's hospital in Crumlin in Dublin.
Laboratory test results are awaited to confirm the type of meningitis involved.
