Afghans arrest three kidnap suspects

Afghan authorities have arrested three people allegedly involved in the kidnapping of three UN workers yesterday.

The suspects were wearing military uniforms and were picked up north of the capital, Kabul, along with a black four-wheel-drive pickup truck, with tinted windows and defence ministry number plates.

This fits the description of the vehicle used in yesterday’s kidnapping.

One of the three seized in Kabul was an Irish woman, Anetta Flanigan from Richhill in Co Armagh.

It has also been reported that the kidnappers have said that the three hostages are alive but that they may be killed if an attempt is made to rescue them.
