Peace talks between the Sudanese government and rebel groups in Darfur resumed in the Nigerian capital today.
The talks are aimed at resolving the conflict which has left thousands of people dead and more than one million destitute.
They come after criticism from United Nations and European Union officials, who have accused both sides of failing to observe a ceasefire signed in April.
The UN senior envoy to Sudan, Jan Pronk, said his organisation would not tolerate failure by either side to protect civilians.
The EU's foreign policy chief, Xavier Solana, who is visiting Sudan, said the outlook was not good for the fragile ceasefire.
