Airport Authority row is resolved

A row over worker representation on the board of the new Dublin Airport Authority has been resolved.

The State Airports Act, which established a new authority replacing Aer Rianta, reserves four seats on the 12 member board for worker-directors.

However, elections for those posts have not yet been held. Pending those elections, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions had proposed for interim external candidates to sit on the board but that proposal was not accepted.

Now the four seats will be held by union representatives from each of the main DAA unions; SIPTU, IMPACT, Mandate and TEEU.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transport said it was anxious that elections for the worker-director positions would be held as soon as possible.
