US President George W Bush and his Democratic Party rival, Senator John Kerry, are concentrating their presidential election campaigns in Florida, the state that narrowly decided the last election.

Mr Kerry arrived in Florida yesterday, where his running mate John Edwards attacked the Republican Party for trying to keep people from voting.

President Bush is arriving in the state today to target the undecideds. Voters in Florida are able to cast their ballots from today.

It is hoped the early-voting system, which is in use in many states, will boost turnout and overcome some of the counting problems that plagued the election in Florida four years ago.

The latest opinion poll in the US presidential race puts President Bush eight points ahead of his Democratic challenger.

The USA Today/CNN survey puts Mr Bush on 52% and Mr Kerry on 44%.
