Israel completes pullout from northern Gaza

Israel has completed the withdrawal of the forces it sent into northern Gaza two weeks ago to stop Palestinian militants firing rockets into towns across the border.

Witnesses say that soldiers and tanks moved back from the Jabalya refugee camp into Israel under cover of darkness.

An Israeli official said the withdrawal was also a mark of respect for the start of the Muslim holy season of Ramadan.

But the Israelis have warned that they may move back if there are further rocket attacks.

More than 100 Palestinians have been killed since the operation began.
