Grimes testimony over Jackson Way land

An agricultural contractor, Thomas Grimes, has testified that he rented part of the Jackson Way lands at Carrickmines from businessman Jim Kennedy.

Mr Grimes told the Mahon Tribunal he and a business partner entered into an agreement with Mr Kennedy to grow linseed on 76 acres of the lands in 1994.

Mr Grimes said this happened after buying a digger from Mr Kennedy and he remembered that the businessman's solicitor was based in the Channel Islands.

Initially Mr Grime’s partner, Alex Hill, denied that he heard Jim Kennedy to be the owner of the lands. However, he later admitted that Mr Kennedy had telephoned him about cutting down hedges in 1995.

Mr Kennedy, who is living in the Isle of Man, has refused to co-operate with the tribunal's inquiry into the ownership of lands at Carrickmines.

Gerald Sands was another landowner who rented some of the land at Carrickmines in 1989. The tribunal heard that when his wife made a cheque out to Jim Kennedy, Binchy solicitors told her to make it out to them.

Richard Lynn of Monarch properties, who also owned lands in the area, told the tribunal he talked to Mr Kennedy about agreeing a common rezoning plan.

The tribunal is now continuing its investigation into ownership of Jackson Way lands as well as other land deals in Dublin.
