This year's Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai.
Professor Maathai is the first African woman to win the prestigious prize.
She was awarded the prize for leading a campaign to plant tens of millions of trees across Africa in a bid to slow deforestation.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Professor Maathai, who is Kenya's Assistant Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources, for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.
She was selected from a record field of 194 candidates.
