Vice-Presidential debate - Cheney and Edwards clash

The two Vice-Presidential candidates in next month's US presidential election have taken part in a televised debate at a venue in Ohio.

The current Vice-President, Dick Cheney, and Democratic Senator John Edwards clashed repeatedly over Iraq and security policy, as well as making personal attacks on the other side's records and judgement.

Political analysts say that although vice-presidential debates usually have little impact on the race for the White House, interest has been heightened because of the close contest between President George W Bush and Senator John Kerry.
