A British Foreign Office spokeswoman has confirmed that the male body discovered in south Baghdad earlier today is not the British hostage, Kenneth Bigley.
She said the Iraqi health ministry had been in contact and said the body was that of a 35-year-old Iraqi man.
Mr Bigley's family has thanked people for their support and prayers as their agony continues with their loved one in captivity.
A message from Craig Bigley, Ken's son, was read out to around 1,000 people on the steps of Liverpool's Anglican cathedral.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, has vowed to set up diplomatic links with Jordanian authorities in an effort to assist in securing Mr Bigley's release.
