CER approves gas price increase

The Commission for Energy Regulation has given Bord Gáis the go-ahead for a price increase from tomorrow, 1 October.

Gas bills for residential customers will go up by 10.9%, adding about 20 cent a day to the average bill. Small and medium sized industrial and commercial customers will see their gas bills rise by 16%.

The increase will be reflected in November or December bills, depending on whether a customer is billed monthly or every two months.

When it first announced the proposed increase earlier this month, CER said the increases would be the first in 18 months and came about as a result in the increase in natural gas prices.

CER is also ordering Bord Gáis to phase out some discounts for industrial and commercial customers by October 2006.
