Dublin Bus - Wildcat strike hits routes

Dublin Bus has described this morning's wildcat strike, which stranded thousands of commuters, as a flagrant breach of company procedures.

Services on routes to Rathmines, Terenure, Templeogue and Tallaght have returned to normal.

A spokeswoman said drivers returned to work without any commitment from the company regarding its industrial relations procedures.

Last Friday evening, three unruly bus passengers urinated on a Dublin Bus driver in Drimnagh. He immediately broke off the journey and returned to Ringsend.

The driver said he was rostered on over the weekend which would have attracted certain overtime worth around €500. However, he says he was placed on sick leave against his will, and thus lost his overtime.

When the driver protested at Ringsend garage this morning, other drivers refused to pass his picket. Eventually, after a four-hour stand-off, the drivers agreed to go back to work.

Dublin Bus said it will be holding a full investigation, after which it will decide what further steps will be taken.
