Speculation is mounting that Dr Liam Twomey, Independent TD for Wexford, will join Fine Gael.
Paul Kehoe, Fine Gael TD for Wexford, has confirmed that negotiations have taken place between Dr Twomey and Fine Gael in relation to Dr Twomey becoming a member of the party.
Dr Twomey was first elected to the Dáil in 2002 as an Independent.
His election campaign focussed on health issues. When contacted today by RTÉ, he neither confirmed nor denied the rumours.
Fine Gael will hold a press conference about the matter tomorrow.
It is also understood Dr Twomey will make a formal announcement in the morning.
