Registry to probe inner city cancer cases

The Minister for Health, Mícheál Martin, is to ask the National Cancer Registry to examine a cluster of cancer cases among women in inner city Dublin.

The registry monitors instances of cancer around the country.

The Eastern Regional Health Authority is also investigating the high incidence of cancer among the women in the north inner city.

According to a report in today's Irish Times, in the last two years, ten women living on Sean O'Casey Avenue in Summerhill have died of cancer.

A further 11 have been diagnosed with the disease, prompting concern and fear in the Dublin community.
