The United States has produced a revised version of its draft UN resolution on the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan.
The updated document maintains the threat of sanctions on Sudan's oil industry if violence continues in Darfur.
However, it now says the UN Security Council will only consider taking such measures against the government in Khartoum, rather than definitely implement them.
The 15-member council is expected to vote on the issue by the end of the week.
