The World Health Organisation has said that up to 10,000 displaced people could be dying from violence and disease every month in the Darfur region of western Sudan.

The WHO says the figure includes thousands of children who are falling victim to preventable diseases in the crowded and unsanitary conditions in refugee camps.

The organisation surveyed displaced people across north and west Darfur and looked at overall death rates between June and August of this year.
