The US military says it has charged four members of one of its elite units with abusing prisoners in Iraq.
One of the prisoners later died in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison after being beaten with a gun.
A naval official said more soldiers may also be charged after an investigation into the death of another Iraqi detainee is completed.
The four soldiers are members of the Sea-Air-Land commando team which was part of US special operations personnel fighting in Iraq.
The military did not name the four.
