Chile's Supreme Court has ruled that the country's former military ruler, Augusto Pinochet, should be stripped of his immunity from prosecution.

Prosecutors want General Pinochet, 88, to stand trial in connection with his alleged involvement in a co-ordinated campaign to kill political opponents in the 1970s.

Today's ruling upheld a lower court decision in May.

It said the former dictator could be charged in connection with the disappearance of 19 leftists in the mid-1970s. Their bodies have never been found.
