Heavy fighting shatters ceasefire in Georgia

Heavy fighting in Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia has shattered a three-day-old ceasefire.

Two Georgian soldiers were killed after coming under mortar and automatic weapons fire from South Ossetian forces. It happened at the soldiers' base in the village of Eredvi.

The main fighting appeared to be focused on a vital access road inside South Ossetia that links nine Georgian villages.

Georgia has stepped up pressure in the past two months to bring South Ossetia back under its control.
