The United Nations has said fresh attacks by Sudanese government forces and pro-government militias have driven more people from their homes in the Darfur region.
The UN humanitarian agency says the government in Khartoum used helicopter gunships to carry out raids in southern Darfur while militias were attacking refugee camps.
But Sudan has insisted it is observing a ceasefire and starting to disarm the militia groups.
A report released today by the New York-based Human Rights Group says the claims from Khartoum lack credibility.
The Sudanese Ambassador in London, Hassan Abdin, denied a claim by the group that personnel from the Janjaweed militias were being incorporated into the mainstream Sudanese security forces.
He said the government was sending more police to the region, in keeping with international agreements.
