A leak of high-pressure steam at a Japanese nuclear power plant has killed four workers and injured seven others.

Authorities said that no radiation escaped in the accident, which took place on the anniversary of the 1945 atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

Steam leaked in the turbine room of a pressurised water reactor at the nuclear complex in Mihama, about 220 miles west of Tokyo.

The nuclear power generation unit at the facility was shut down after the accident.

In a separate incident, Japan's biggest power producer said it had also shut a nuclear power generation unit at one of its plants due to a water leak.
