The UN says the Sudanese cabinet has approved an action plan to disarm militias and set up safe areas for uprooted villagers from the western region of Darfur.
The plan outlines steps the government in Khartoum must take within 30 days to improve security in the region.
The African Union is preparing to send 24,000 troops to the area.
