US raises terror alert in NY and Washington

Authorities in the US have raised the terrorist alert in New York and Washington to ‘high’ after new intelligence suggested possible terrorist attacks on the cities.

The Homeland Security Secretary, Tom Ridge, has said they have new and highly specific information relating to possible terrorist attacks.

The threats are thought to affect the financial services districts in New York and Washington.

Mr Ridge named a number of high-risk buildings, including the World Bank buildings in Washington and the New York Stock Exchange.
