The Sudanese government has said it will comply with a UN resolution which threatens sanctions if Sudan fails to restore security in the crisis-hit region of Darfur.
Backing down from an earlier rejection of the resolution, Sudan's ambassador to the UN said the country would comply to the best of its ability.
The US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, had earlier said he will continue with efforts to end the conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan.
Speaking in Kuwait, Mr Powell said the UN Security Council had spoken in a rather strong vote.
Meanwhile, France has ordered troops stationed in neighbouring Chad to provide security along the border.
