CSO figures reveal price differences in Dublin

The Consumers' Association has called for an investigation into the prices Dubliners have to pay for goods and services.

The call came after the Central Statistics Office released for the first time figures comparing prices in Dublin and the rest of the country.

The new figures show that on average there is a 132% difference outside of Dublin between the highest and lowest prices charged for consumer goods.

However, for consumers in Dublin the average price range is almost half that, at just 70%.

The average gap in the overall cost of living between Dublin and the rest of the country as indicated by these prices is relatively small at just 5.5%.

The CSO compared prices for 73 goods and services.
