The African Union says it will intensify efforts to restart peace talks between the warring parties from the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
The negotiations in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, broke down when a rebel group opposed to the Sudanese government walked out.
A rebel spokesman said the government had refused to meet conditions set by the rebels to end their insurgency.
These include the withdrawal of government forces from Darfur.
A spokesman for the African Union, Desmond Orjiako, warned that there was now no room for any delay in peace talks.
