The British government is getting its first look today at the report of the inquiry into intelligence used to support the war in Iraq.
The report by former senior civil servant Lord Butler, to be published tomorrow, is expected to criticise MI6 and its chief, John Scarlett, although Downing Street has refused to comment.
Last week in Washington, a powerful Senate Committee strongly criticised the CIA for the way it used intelligence, although it stopped short of attaching any blame to the White House.
US President George W Bush has made his first major response to the criticism. He said the choice had been to believe a madman, as he referred to Saddam Hussein, or to defend America.
