An ESB strike threatened for Monday has been deferred following a meeting of the ESB group of unions this morning.
Group Secretary Paddy Reilly said the group had decided to unanimously recommend the proposal formulated by the National Implementation Body yesterday to a full group of unions meeting on Monday.
Mr Reilly said the recommendations put all issues on the table, including the controversial enhancement of the employees' shareholding in the company.
However, he acknowledged that the question of an equity stake would have to be taken in the context of structural change and Government policy.
The ESB Officers' Association, whose strike notice at the company was due to expire on Monday, said that it was deferring its action. ESBOA General Secretary Tony Dunne said the proposals constituted a road map to make progress.
The ESBOA will hold a full executive meeting on Tuesday to consider the situation.
