Seven Palestinians were shot dead and an Israeli army officer was seriously wounded during clashes in the Gaza Strip early today.
The incident took place in the town of Beit Hanoun in the north of the territory.
Palestinian sources said that five of the dead were armed militants, including a local leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas, while two were civilians.
