A female suicide bomber blew herself up in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, this morning, killing four policemen and injuring 11 others.
The blast occurred inside a police station in the city, when the woman detonated the bomb as she was being frisked.
Officials believe the target of the bombing was government minister Douglas Devananda, a Tamil who is a vocal opponent of the Tamil Tiger movement.
No-one has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Tamil Tigers offered no immediate comment on the blast.
However, local defence officials said they believed the Tigers were responsible for the bombing.
Sri Lanka has been trying to end a decades-long civil war with Tamil Tiger rebels, with the government and the rebels observing a truce since 2002.
