The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has said that the government of the African State of Sudan has promised to remove all obstacles preventing the easing of the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region in the north west of the country.
Some one million people have fled their homes and at least 10,000 have already died in a conflict in which Arab militias have been accused of ethnic cleansing.
