A Luas tram was involved in what is being described as a minor collision with a car on Harcourt Street this morning.

The wing mirror of the car was slightly damaged and the tram sustained minor damage in the incident.

Around 300 passengers were evacuated from the tram but were allowed back on within a matter of minutes and the tram resumed its journey.

The Railway Procurement Agency says 40,000 people used Luas  yesterday.

By mid-morning today, the agency says it had already carried around 12,000 people. Queues began building at around 10.30am this morning and extra trams had to be put on to meet demand.
