One man has died and a further 27 people, including children, were injured in two explosions that rocked Jalalabad city, in eastern Afghanistan.
Both the explosions happened near security posts, one close to a crowded bus station.
Five children aged under 14 were among the injured, and four policemen were also injured, one critically.
Afghanistan has suffered a wave of violence in recent months.
The upsurge in violence has been blamed on Islamic militants who want to disrupt preparations for elections that are due to be held in September.
Two women working to register female voters in Jalalabad were killed in a bomb attack last Saturday.
Last Friday, Taliban guerillas killed 16 people they found with voter registration cards in the southern province of Zabul.
