Commission reverses march decision

The Parades' Commission in the North has reversed its decision to ban a controversial Orange Order march from a nationalist area of west Belfast tomorrow.

Last week the Commission banned the Whiterock march from entering the nationalist Springfield Road, saying it had violated restrictions placed on it last year.

However, this afternoon the ban on the parade was lifted, and the march will be allowed to enter the Springfield Road under specific and detailed conditions.

The Commission said in lifting the ban it had taken into account the fact that a group, including Orange Order members, had discussions with representatives of Springfield Road residents.

The Commission also said march organisers had promised that all loyalist paramilitary flags and emblems would be removed from the parade.
