One thousand new jobs are to be created in Co Tipperary at medical technology company Guidant.
The Tánaiste made the announcement at the company's plant in Clonmel this afternoon.
500 new jobs will be created over the next three years, with a further 500 as operations develop.
A new 125,000 square foot building will be erected at the site in Clonmel.
Guidant manufactures defibrillators, pacemakers and stents. It currently employs over 1,200 in the Clonmel plant.
The expansion in town is the result of Guidant developing the next generation of stents.
Ger Cronin, vice president and managing director of Guidant in Clonmel, said the excellent workforce was one of the main reasons why the company decided on this expansion.
