Israel in airstrike on Lebanon

The Israeli army has said its warplanes attacked a suspected Hizbollah outpost in the south of neighbouring Lebanon after guerrillas fired anti-aircraft shells at a military base in the north of Israel.

Lebanese officials have confirmed the strikes saying Israeli planes fired at least two missiles in the Jamous Hill area.

The authorities in Lebanon have repeatedly complained to the United Nations about what it sees as Israeli reconnaissance flights along the border region.

The militant group Hizbollah has made it policy to fire at Israeli flights in the area.

The strike comes a month after the deepest airstrike carried out in Lebanon since Israel withdrew its forces from the south of the country in 2000 after an 18-year occupation.
