CSO figures show strong employment growth

New figures from the Central Statistics Office suggest that pressure to increase wages could re-emerge in the months ahead in response to continued strong employment growth and a reduction in the available labour supply.

The Quarterly National Household Survey shows an unexpectedly strong growth in employment of more than 52,000 over the past year.

The number of unemployed people fell to 83,600 in the first quarter of the year.
