Car bomb on Baghdad Airport road

A bomb exploded early today at a junction on the road to Baghdad Airport.

US soldiers and police sealed off the area in the southwestern
al-Khadra district, near the headquarters of the Iraqi border guard and a local police station.

They were also defusing a second bomb, hidden in a small box, on the route.

Four security contractors, two US and two Polish nationals, were
killed in a small-arms fire ambush on the same Baghdad Airport road one week ago. It is a frequent target of bomb attacks.

And 16 people are now reported to have been killed by yesterday's car bomb near Tahrir Square in the city centre.

The Iraqi Interior Minister, Falah al-Naqib, said the perpetrator was 'not Iraqi'.
