11 people were killed in a gun attack in the Pakistani city of Karachi this morning.
The Pakistani Army has denied that the local army commander, Lieutenant General Ahsan Saleem Hayat, was the target.
However, other sources said the attack was a well-planned ambush directed at a motorcade carrying the general.
Seven soldiers, three policemen and a civilian died, but the general escaped unhurt. Three other policemen were wounded.
The attack occurred close to the US consulate, which has been targeted by Islamic militants in the past.
