Michael Soden - Board meeting over replacement

The Bank of Ireland has named a new managing director following a meeting of the board this afternoon.

The appointment follows the shock resignation of Michael Soden as chief executive of the bank.

Mr Soden resigned last weekend after it had emerged he had used his office computer to access adult material on the Internet.

Brian Goggin is a career banker who has been involved in the bank’s retail and wholesale businesses, both in Ireland and in the United States.

He is currently head of asset management and an executive director of the bank.
