The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, has said that while he accepts that people have a right to protest against the visit of US President George W Bush, he hoped that any demonstration would be peaceful.
The EU/US summit planned for Dromoland Castle, Co Clare, on 26 June will go ahead, Mr Cowen said.
He said that all the arrangements have been made and that it was important that Ireland discharge its responsibility as EU President.
Mr Cowen said there were big issues to discuss and some differences on policy and that was why it was important that the talks took place.
