Earthquake strikes northern Iran

A powerful earthquake has rocked the Alborz mountain chain in northern Iran, killing at least 20 people and damaging scores of villages.

The tremor, which measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, hit the city of Sari. It is reported that buildings shook in the capital Tehran, almost 200 miles away.

Last December, an earthquake struck the ancient city of Bam killing more than 26,000 people.
